Grotesk

Grotesk is a 3D, text-based walking simulator about the psychological phenomenon of people-pleasing in which you control the exaggerated embodiment of pure people-pleasing itself. A seemingly blank, nameless character with only one goal in mind. Satisfying others, even at the expense of one's own needs and interests.

Navigate this tragic character through up to five different worlds with unique residents and capturing atmospheres. Can you help them discover the truth about themselves and hopefully make friends along the way?

This game was in development for about 4 months as a summer term school project, and it was created by 4 authors on Game Art.

The concept and game design of the game were the collective thought process of all authors. Then we all divided into our roles and respectively created and engineered our contributions to the game using various programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Audition, Krita, Blender, SLK_img2pixel, and REAPER. All the assets were then assembled in Unreal Engine 5.

The game's OST was created in REAPER using various Surge XT Synthesizer, and Spitfire Audio LABS software instruments. The sound effects are mashups of sounds downloaded from Pixabay and Freesound (all files are under the CC0 license) that were then edited in Adobe Audition.
